There is no such reason to initiate a destabilization plot from the side of the Philippine National Police (PNP), its Chief General Rommel Francisco Marbil clarified on Tuesday evening, May 7.

The statement was made following the claim of former senator Antonio Trillanes IV that high-ranking police officials were recruiting personnel to join a plot to oust President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

In a press briefing, Marbil said that police officials in the country are satisfied with their benefits, as there is no reason for them to make such a violent move.

"There is no issue for us, na gumawa ng destabilization... Wala pong ganon. Yung mga pulis natin kaya nga mas happy sila ngayon eh. We are providing them with so much tulong. Kaya wala silang issue na lumaban sa gobyerno," Marbil stressed.

In a separate press briefing on Tuesday, PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo also denied Trillanes' allegations among ranks.

"First, we do not know where former senator Antonio Trillanes IV sourced his remarks, but on the part of the PNP, we spoke with the chief PNP regarding that issue earlier, and even our intelligence units here in the PNP, we have not monitored any police officer who is involved in this so-called destabilization plot and we have not monitored any destabilization plot for that matter," Fajardo said.

"Ang pakiusap natin kay kagalang galang na dating senator Trillanes, please spare the PNP dito sa mga issue na ito at naka-focus tayo sa pagtupad ng ating mandato," she added.

Under the claim of Trillanes, the alleged ousting of Marcos aims to protect former president Rodrigo Roa Duterte from the International Criminal Court (ICC) as it is expected to issue an arrest warrant against him over the drug-related killings under his term.

However, it can be recalled that Marcos maintained that the Philippines will not cooperate in the ongoing ICC probe into Duterte’s drug war, as the ICC has no jurisdiction over the country.
